Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin unveiled the DMK manifesto and announced the party's list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The manifesto launch took place at an event in Chennai, attended by Kanimozhi and other party leaders.
Among the key pledges, the party vowed to prohibit NEET and grant statehood to Puducherry. Additionally, the manifesto stated that the Uniform Civil Code and Citizenship Act, 2019 (CAA) would not be implemented.
Stalin stated that the DMK formulates its manifesto before elections and adheres to its commitments, following the principles instilled by its leaders.
Kanimozhi highlighted the extensive consultations conducted across the state, emphasizing that the manifesto represents the collective voice of the people. Criticising the BJP's performance since 2014, she stated that none of their electoral promises had been fulfilled. She expressed confidence in the INDI alliance and affirmed the party's determination to secure victory in the 2024 elections. The manifesto includes special schemes tailored for Tamil Nadu, with specific initiatives outlined for each district.
Speaking at the release of the party's manifesto and the announcement of seats, DMK MP Kanimozhi stated, "Our primary emphasis was on the responsibilities of the Union government, and we endeavoured to engage with all sectors. I believe that sufficient numbers will be crucial for establishing an effective and stable government."
In its manifesto, the party pledged, among other commitments, to initiate measures ensuring that states are consulted regarding the appointment of Governors, to abolish Article 356, which grants the Centre the authority to dismiss a state government, and to advocate for statehood for Puducherry.
The ruling party nominated 21 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, introducing 11 new faces while including three women, including sitting South Chennai MP Tamizhachi Thangapandian. The DMK in Tamil Nadu disclosed its list of candidates for the April 19 Lok Sabha elections, which retained several incumbent MPs, such as Kanimozhi, TR Baalu, and A Raja, among others.
Dayanidhi Maran, S Jagathrakshakan, Kalanidhi Veerasamy, Kathir Anand, and C N Annadurai were among those retained by the party.
