The Ministry of Tourism on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Air India Limited to strengthen the promotion of India as a leading global tourism destination under the Incredible India campaign. The agreement creates a strategic framework that will allow both sides to work together to increase India's visibility among international travellers and attract more visitors from across the world.
Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat attended the signing ceremony. The partnership reflects the government's continued efforts to expand India's presence in the global tourism market through coordinated promotional campaigns and stronger engagement with international audiences.
The collaboration will combine the Ministry of Tourism's destination promotion initiatives with Air India's wide domestic and international network. The aim is to showcase India's tourism potential to a larger audience, improve inbound tourism and strengthen the country's position as a global travel and transit hub. The agreement is non-commercial, non-binding and non-exclusive. It does not involve any financial commitment from either the Ministry of Tourism or Air India.
The MoU provides a structured framework for cooperation in several important areas. These include tourism promotion, destination branding, content development, international marketing and stakeholder engagement. Both organisations will use their digital platforms, global reach and communication channels to promote India as a world-class tourism destination. They also aim to support efforts to increase the number of international tourist arrivals in the country.
As part of the partnership, the Ministry of Tourism and Air India will launch joint promotional campaigns under the Incredible India brand in different international markets. They will also explore co-branded marketing initiatives that highlight India's diverse tourism offerings. The collaboration will focus on destination storytelling through digital platforms as well as offline promotional activities. These campaigns are expected to present India's cultural heritage, natural beauty and travel experiences to audiences around the world in a more engaging manner.
The agreement also includes plans to develop tourism-related content that Air India will share through its customer touchpoints. This content will reach travellers through various channels, including the airline's in-flight entertainment platforms. The initiative is expected to introduce passengers to different destinations across India and encourage them to explore the country's tourism offerings during their visits.
The Ministry of Tourism and Air India will also work closely with State Tourism Boards and other stakeholders from the tourism sector. Their joint efforts will promote destinations across different regions of the country and highlight the unique attractions each state has to offer. This coordinated approach aims to improve destination awareness and create more opportunities for travellers to discover new places in India.
The partnership also allows both sides to explore branding opportunities across Air India's platforms. These may include aircraft livery, boarding passes and in-flight media. Such branding activities will depend on feasibility and mutual agreement between the Ministry of Tourism and the airline. These initiatives are expected to increase the visibility of the Incredible India campaign among passengers travelling on Air India's domestic and international routes.
To ensure the smooth implementation of the agreement, the Ministry of Tourism and Air India will form a Joint Working Group. The group will include representatives from both organisations and will oversee the execution of the MoU. It will identify new areas for collaboration, monitor ongoing activities and periodically review the progress of the initiatives planned under the agreement.
The MoU will remain valid for an initial period of two years from its effective date. Both parties may extend the agreement by one additional year if they mutually agree to do so. This timeline provides enough scope to implement various promotional activities and assess their impact on India's tourism outreach.
The partnership is expected to create a well-structured platform for expanding India's global tourism promotion efforts. By combining the government's destination marketing initiatives with Air India's international connectivity, the collaboration aims to improve India's visibility in key tourism markets. It is also expected to encourage more international travellers to choose India as their next destination through coordinated campaigns, stronger branding and wider promotional outreach under the Incredible India initiative.
