MEA official, SAARC Secretary-General discuss status of regional cooperation in South Asia

Jaideep Mazumdar, the Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs, welcomed Golam Sarwar, the Secretary-General of SAARC, on his first official visit to India. During their meeting, the two officials deliberated on the current state of regional cooperation in South Asia.
In a post on social media platform X, Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), announced, "Secy (East) @JaideepMazumder welcomed visiting SAARC Secretary General Md Golam Sarwar on his inaugural visit to India. They deliberated on the status of regional cooperation in South Asia."
On May 14th, Minister of State for External Affairs, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, warmly welcomed SAARC Secretary-General Golam Sarwar on his first visit to India. In a post on social media platform X, the Union Minister conveyed his best wishes for Sarwar's tenure ahead, stating, "Received Secretary General, SAARC, Md Golam Sarwar on his inaugural visit to India. Wished him the best for his tenure ahead."
Randhir Jaiswal, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, extended a warm welcome to SAARC Secretary-General Md Golam Sarwar upon his arrival in New Delhi on 11th May. In a statement posted on social media platform X, Jaiswal expressed, "Welcome to India! SAARC Secretary General Md Golam Sarwar arrives in New Delhi on his first official visit to India. An opportunity to further strengthen cooperation in South Asia."
The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was founded on December 8, 1985, bringing together eight member states: India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The official establishment of the SAARC Secretariat took place in Kathmandu on January 17, 1987, as confirmed by an official statement from the SAARC Secretariat.
According to an official statement, the goals of SAARC include enhancing the well-being of South Asian populations and enhancing their standard of living, fostering economic growth, social advancement, and cultural enrichment in the region. Additionally, SAARC aims to ensure that all individuals have the chance to lead dignified lives and fulfill their potential, as well as to bolster collective self-reliance among South Asian nations.
