On Wednesday, authorities in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir found that over 90% of the hospital employees, including doctors, were not at work. This was discovered during a surprise inspection of the Shopian District Hospital at 10:10 am, led by the additional deputy commissioner, as instructed by the deputy commissioner. The absent employees have been asked to explain their absence.

According to the biometric attendance report that the hospital's medical superintendent submitted, the majority of the doctors, medical officers, paramedical employees, and ministerial staff were discovered to have been unapprovedly absent from work during the inspection, the officials stated. During the inspection, it was found that out of the 198 hospital employees, only 17 were present, while 181 were absent. This irregular attendance of doctors, medical officers, paramedical staff, and administrative staff is causing major problems for the public.

One day's income will be withheld and credited to the District Red Cross Society in the event of an unapproved absence, according to a circular issued by the deputy commissioner's office on Tuesday, according to the officials. After the inspection, the deputy commissioner directed the hospital's medical superintendent to ask all absent employees for an explanation regarding their negligence, irresponsible behaviour and poor attitude, which are inappropriate for public servants, as per the relevant rules of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services Regulations, according to the officials.

The order stated that the employees should explain why they should not face any action. The replies, along with the views, comments, and recommendations from the medical superintendent, must be submitted to the deputy commissioner's office within three days. If not submitted within this time, it will be assumed that the absentee employees have no defence, and action will be taken according to the rules, including a deduction of one day's salary.
