In a major action against insurgent activities, security forces arrested three active members of the banned People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro) in Manipur's Bishnupur district. A large stockpile of arms and ammunition was also seized.
The operation took place on March 23, leading to the arrest of Oinam Abung Meitei (31), Yumlembam Romesh Singh, also known as Ratan (47) and RK Navy Meitei (32) from Kumbi Terakhong under Kumbi Police Station. Security forces recovered a large stockpile of weapons and ammunition from the suspects. This included one .303 Light Machine Gun (LMG), two .303 LMG magazines, sixteen live rounds of .303 ammunition, three live rounds of 7.62mm Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) ammunition, one live round of 5.56mm INSAS ammunition, one live round of 7.62mm AK ammunition, and twenty-four Ballister cartridges.
In addition, they seized a No. 36 hand grenade key, three grenade arm rings, one .303 blank round, a four-wheeler, and two mobile phones. Authorities believe the arrested individuals were involved in illegal activities and are investigating their possible links to recent insurgent operations in the area. The People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) is an armed insurgent group in Manipur that seeks an independent homeland. Last week, the Manipur Police carried out multiple raids across the state and arrested seven members of different banned insurgent groups. They also seized weapons and ammunition during these operations. On March 21, the police arrested an active member of the KCP-PWG group in Imphal West.
On the same day, in a separate operation, Manipur Police arrested four active members of KCP (Apunba). In another operation, security forces arrested one active member of PREPAK in Imphal East District. Similarly, on March 21, security forces arrested one active member of RPF/PLA in Imphal East District. Earlier, on February 13, President's Rule was imposed in Manipur after the state governor submitted a report. The violence in the northeastern state began on May 3 last year after clashes broke out during a rally organised by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU). The rally was held to protest against the demand to include the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.
