Police reported on Friday that seventeen militants from various banned organisations were arrested across four districts in Manipur within the past 24 hours. Among them, thirteen militants of the criminal Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) group were captured on Thursday in the Moirang Kiyam Leikai area of Bishnupur district.
“Seventeen militants belonging to different banned outfits were arrested from four Manipur districts in the last 24 hours,” as per police officials. “Thirteen militants belonging to the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) outfit were nabbed from Moirang Kiyam Leikai area of Bishnupur district on Thursday (February 20, 2025),” police statement briefed.
Police authorities have seized 27 cartridges, three walkie-talkie sets, camouflage uniforms, and various other tactical accessories. The arrested individuals taken into custody have been shifted to Imphal for further investigation.
Additionally, police reported that a militant belonging to the banned United National Liberation Front (P) was arrested on Thursday in the Ngariyan Ching area of Imphal East district.
“The arrested person was involved in extortion activities,” police stated. “Security forces arrested a cadre of Kangleipak Communist Party (City Meitei) from Ngaikhong Khullen area in Bishnupur district on Thursday (February 20, 2025),” they reported.
“Police arrested one active cadre of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) who was involved in extortion activity from the Kakching Sumak Leikai area in the Kakching district. Security forces apprehended a cadre of KCP (PWG) from Pheidinga in Imphal West district,” police conveyed.
This incident comes as Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has urged the state's people to return weapons stolen from various armouries within seven days. He assured that no punitive action would be taken against those who voluntarily surrendered the arms.
Meanwhile, police have arrested several insurgents during raids in Bishnupur, Imphal West, Imphal East, and Kakching districts. The militants were reportedly engaged in extortion efforts as part of an attempt to revive their activities in Manipur, which is currently under President’s Rule.
