Manipur Police intensify operations, recovers multiple arms, ammunition

Manipur Police, with support from Assam Rifles and other security agencies, has been actively searching for 20-year-old Luwangthem Mukesh, son of L. Gyanendra Das from Keishampat Leimajam Leikai, who went missing on March 16, 2025.
Over the past 24 hours, search teams have focused on areas near the Bishnupur and Churachandpur border, as well as Joujangtek and Old Cachar road. They are using advanced technology and intelligence to track his whereabouts, according to a press release. Authorities are holding top-level security meetings to plan the next steps in the search operation. Manipur Police has asked citizens to share any helpful information that could assist in finding the missing person. They are dedicated to ensuring his quick recovery and maintaining peace in the area.
Security forces conducted search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. During the operation, they recovered the following items: Two of SLR with two Magazines loaded with 20 rounds, 02 nos. of INSAS Rifle with 02 Magazines loaded with 20 rounds, two SMG Carbine without Magazine, eight BP Plate, seven BP Vest, 23 Camouflage Pant, 20 Camouflage Shirt, Camouflage Cap and 22 Tactical waist Belt from Langol Housing Complex Quarter No. TA/42 (which is a vacant quarter) under Lamphel-PS, Imphal West District. Security forces recovered several weapons and ammunition from different locations. In the Hill range of Haotak Awang Leikai, under Kumbi Police Station in Bishnupur District, they seized one .303 rifle, one .303 magazine, 16 rounds of .303 ammunition, one 12-bore cartridge, three charger clips, and one pull-through.
From Chingdong Leikai in Jiribam District, security forces confiscated three INSAS rifles, two SLR rifles, three INSAS magazines, two SLR magazines, and four rifle magazines. Additionally, on March 27, they arrested an active member of the KCP (PWG) group, Leishangthem Hiran Singh (40), from Koutruk Ching Leikai, currently residing in Utlou Makha Leikai. He was caught near the bus waiting shed at Maibam Chingmang along Tiddim Road, under Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur District. Singh was involved in extorting money from the general public and brick fields in Thinungei Makha Leikai, Bishnupur District. Security forces seized a mobile phone and a SIM card from him. One active member of the KCP-PSC (Politburo Standing Committee) group, Likmabam Amujao Meitei, also known as Lakpa, 27, of Keibi Awang Leikal, Imphal East District, was taken into custody by Manipur Police on March 27. He was from Sawombung Pourabi Road, which is close to the FCI Godown under Lamlai-PS, Imphal East District.
On March 27, Manipur Police arrested two suspected members of the KCP (Taibanganba) group. The individuals, identified as Loitongbam Boyai Singh (45) from Wangoo Ahallup Mayai Leikai and Khumanthem Dhanabir Singh, also known as Naobi (28), from Churachandpur (currently residing near the Old DC Office in Bishnupur), were taken into custody from the Langthabal Khunou area under KJM-PS in Thoubal District. On the same day, security forces dismantled a bunker at Ponlen under Kangchup-PS in Kangpokpi District and set its remains on fire. Additionally, authorities ensured the movement of 357 vehicles carrying essential supplies along NH-2 and 215 vehicles along NH-37. Strict security measures have been implemented at all vulnerable locations, with security convoys escorting vehicles in sensitive areas to guarantee their safe and uninterrupted passage. A total of 111 checkpoints were set up across different districts of Manipur, covering both hill and valley areas. However, no one was detained by the police for any violations in these districts.
