Security forces in Manipur have stepped up search and security measures across vulnerable areas in the hill and valley districts, the state police confirmed on Thursday. These efforts aim to ensure the safe passage of vehicles carrying essential supplies and maintain peace in sensitive regions.
According to a post by Manipur Police on X, "Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts." The police also ensured the movement of 262 and 336 vehicles along National Highways 37 and 2, respectively, by providing security convoys to sensitive stretches.
"Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations, and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles," the post added.
To further enhance safety, 94 checkpoints or "Nakas" have been installed across various districts. "A total of 94 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley, and no one was detained by Police in connection with violations in different districts of the State," the police confirmed.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered three cases related to the recent violence in Jiribam, including an incident on November 11. Unknown armed militants fired at Borobekra Police Station and nearby structures in Jakuradhor Karong, setting several buildings ablaze. The ensuing exchange of fire with police and CRPF personnel led to the recovery of two bodies.
In Parliament, Congress MP Hibi Eden submitted an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha, urging the government to address the crisis. The motion highlighted the fatalities, mass displacement, and destruction caused by the ongoing conflict, along with accusations of bias and inadequate response by the state administration.
"The escalating violence endangers the state's social fabric and India's democratic values," the Congress MP stated, calling for urgent measures to restore peace and justice in Manipur.
