Major administrative reshuffle in Uttarakhand: 40 IAS officers transferred

The Uttarakhand government has announced a major administrative reshuffle, involving the transfer of 40 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers and four Provincial Civil Service (PCS) officers. This significant change, detailed in an order released on Wednesday night, affects key positions including several district magistrates across the state.
Savin Bansal, from the 2009 IAS batch, has been appointed as the new District Magistrate (DM) of Dehradun, taking over from Sonika. Sonika has been reassigned to lead the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) and will also serve as Additional Secretary and Registrar in Cooperatives. This move is part of the government’s strategy to streamline leadership and enhance administrative effectiveness in crucial roles.
Dhiraj Garbyal, previously serving as the District Magistrate of Haridwar, has been moved to the role of Additional Secretary in the Public Works Department (PWD) and Commissioner of Rural Development. Karmendra Singh will now step into the role of District Magistrate of Haridwar, overseeing the district's administrative functions.
Reena Joshi, who was the District Magistrate of Pithoragarh, has been appointed as Additional Secretary Personnel. In her place, Vinod Giri Goswami has been designated as the new District Magistrate of Pithoragarh. Alok Kumar Pandey will replace Vineet Tomar as the District Magistrate of Almora, while Ashish Bhatgai has been named the new District Magistrate of Bageshwar, succeeding Anuradha Pal.
In Chamoli district, Himanshu Khurana has been relieved of his duties as District Magistrate, with Sandeep Tiwari appointed to the position. This extensive reshuffle reflects the Uttarakhand government’s ongoing efforts to improve administrative efficiency and address the evolving needs of its districts.
