The Maharashtra government announced that it has signed 54 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) valued at ₹15.70 lakh crore during the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2025 in Davos, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). These agreements are projected to create around 16 lakh jobs across multiple industries.
Among the significant agreements is a deal with MSN Holdings Ltd, which plans to set up a cutting-edge lithium battery and cell manufacturing facility under the state’s ‘Ultra Mega Project’ initiative. This project will require an investment of ₹14,652 crore and is expected to generate 8,760 direct and indirect jobs, particularly emphasising boosting development in the Vidarbha region.
The largest MoU signed at the event is with Reliance Group, which has pledged ₹3.05 lakh crore for investments spanning a variety of sectors, including petrochemicals, polyester, renewable energy, bioenergy, green hydrogen, green chemicals, retail, telecommunications, data centres, industrial development, hospitality, and real estate.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has reiterated the state’s ambition of achieving a USD 1 trillion economy. These investments are part of a strategic initiative to attract global capital and expand Maharashtra’s industrial foundation.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2025, held from January 20 to 24 in Davos, Switzerland, carries the theme “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age.” This year, India has a significant presence at the forum, with eight states, Kerala, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and West Bengal—actively pursuing investment opportunities.
India’s delegation at the WEF includes five union ministers, three state chief ministers, and close to 100 CEOs, along with representatives from government, civil society, and the arts. The event has attracted over 350 governmental leaders, including 60 heads of state and government. This year represents India’s largest delegation to the WEF, highlighting the nation’s prominent role in global economic discussions.
