Maharashtra marked International Tiger Day by signing 11 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening tiger conservation, promoting wildlife tourism and supporting sustainable development across the state. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was present during the exchange of the agreements on Wednesday. State government officials said the partnerships will improve conservation efforts, encourage community participation and promote eco-friendly tourism.

According to a state government release, 11 MoUs were exchanged between different institutions during the event. The agreements focus on wildlife conservation, scientific research, rural development and tourism. They also aim to improve opportunities for local communities living near protected forest areas.

One of the key agreements was signed between the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Conservation Foundation (TATRCF) and Airbnb India Pvt Ltd. The partnership aims to promote community-based tourism around the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. Under the agreement, Airbnb India will help homestay owners improve their digital presence. The company will provide digital training, assist with onboarding and offer support for creating online listings. The initiative aims to help local residents attract more visitors and benefit from tourism.

Another important MoU was exchanged between the Navegaon–Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR) and the Tata Motors Foundation (TMF). The agreement focuses on implementing the Integrated Village Development Programme (IVDP 2.0) in villages located within the buffer and eco-sensitive zones of the reserve. The programme aims to improve the quality of life in these villages through livelihood enhancement, natural resource management, better healthcare, education and community empowerment. The initiative also supports sustainable rural development while protecting the surrounding environment.

The Maharashtra Forest Department also entered into a partnership with the Aaroha Group and Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Limited. The three organisations signed an MoU to promote eco-tourism, luxury hospitality and destination development across Maharashtra. The agreement aims to strengthen tourism infrastructure and create new travel experiences while encouraging responsible tourism practices. The partnership is expected to support the state's tourism sector and highlight Maharashtra's rich wildlife and natural heritage.

Another significant agreement was signed between the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Conservation Foundation and the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bengaluru. The collaboration aims to strengthen wildlife conservation through scientific research and joint initiatives. The two organisations will work together on biodiversity research, ecosystem restoration and climate change studies in the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. The partnership will also support long-term conservation planning through research and knowledge sharing.

The state government said these agreements reflect Maharashtra's continued commitment to protecting its forests and wildlife. The MoUs also focus on creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for people living near tiger reserves. By combining conservation with tourism and scientific research, the state aims to ensure long-term protection of its biodiversity while supporting local economic development.

The agreements signed on International Tiger Day highlight a balanced approach to conservation and development. They encourage cooperation between government agencies, private companies, research institutions and local communities.
