Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has officially unveiled the 'Ekatmata Ki Pratima' or 'Statue of Oneness' dedicated to Adi Shankaracharya in Omkareshwar. This remarkable 108-foot-tall statue, perched atop the Mandhata mountain, pays homage to the profound life and teachings of the 8th-century Hindu philosopher and saint. The project, which received approval from the state cabinet last year, serves as a significant celebration of Adi Shankaracharya's legacy and philosophy.
Chief Minister took to X (formerly Twitter), sharing a video of himself offering prayers at the site during the inauguration, and expressed, “There is auspiciousness and auspiciousness only in the feet of Acharya Shankar, animated with spiritual energy. The sun of welfare for the entire world lies in the auspicious thoughts of Advaita.”
Chouhan said, “The cultural foundation on which Adi Shankaracharya ji, who propounded Advaita Vedanta by seeing the existence of only one Brahma in every living being, united India in one thread, is his wonderful gift for every age.”
Situated on the scenic banks of the Narmada River, Omkareshwar is approximately 80 kilometers distant from the city of Indore.
He expressed pride in the fact that this remarkable figure of the spiritual world gained knowledge on the soil of Madhya Pradesh, subsequently imbuing the nation with a profound sense of unity. “Future generations will continue to visit this unique monument and become familiar with the great contribution of Shankaracharya ji from age to age,” Chouhan said.
The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh emphasized Adi Guru Shankaracharya's efforts to foster cultural connections across the country and disseminate the essence of the Vedas among the general populace. He further added, “Shankaracharya also made four monasteries in four corners of the country. This worked to keep India culturally united. Because of that India is united today.”
