On Sunday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma signed an agreement in Bhopal for the implementation of the Rs 72,000 crore Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal River linking project.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Bhopal in the presence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Mohan Yadav.
The project would provide water to 13 districts in Rajasthan, and Malwa and Chambal regions in Madhya Pradesh.
It would also help in irrigation in at least 2.8 lakh hectares area each in both states, including supplementation of route tanks in the states.
The link project will help utilise the available water resources of the Chambal basin optimally and economically.
Speaking at a program after signing the MoU, Yadav emphasised that an important decision had been made to utilise the water resources of these rivers for both Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. He noted that the MoU had been signed between the two states to implement the project.
Yadav said, "Following this agreement, drinking water and irrigation facilities can be expanded in 13 districts of Madhya Pradesh including Morena, Gwalior, Sheopur, and Rajgarh."
"Every drop of water will be used in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, which will write a new chapter in the development of both states," the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister added.
In addition to addressing water scarcity issues, Yadav highlighted the potential for agreements between the two states in tourism, medicine, mining, and other sectors.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma mentioned that both states would benefit from the river linking project, which would also strengthen their relations.
