M Karunanidhi, 5- time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is dead

DMK president and former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Karunanidhi passed away in Chennai at the age of 94. He was inactive in politics for past two years due to his health conditions. His health got further deteriorated few weeks back due to his age related problems, fever and urinary infection. He was admitted to Cauvery hospital on 28th July due to drop in blood pressure. He was under continuous treatment in Cauvery Hospital since he got admitted and on 6th August, Cauvery hospital issued a statement that his condition had declined and it was a challenge for the doctors to maintain his organs functioning properly. Cauvery hospital gave another press release on 7th August announcing his death. The press release said, “With deep anguish, we announce the demise of our beloved Kalaignar Dr M Karunanidhion 07.08.2018 at 06 10 PM. Despite the best possible efforts by our team of doctors and nurses to resuscitate him, he failed to respond. We profoundly mourn the loss of one of the tallest leaders of India and we share the grief of family members and fellow Tamilians worldwide”
Karunanidhi served as Chief Minister of Tamilnadu for five terms. He served the post between the years 1969-1971, 1971-1976, 1989-1991, 1996-2001, 2006-2011 and he had never lost any legislative assembly elections in the constituency he stood and he served as member of legislative assembly for 13 terms. He was also a writer and screenwriter for many films starring legendary actors M.G.Ramachandran (also former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu) and Sivaji Ganesan. He had also written many Tamil plays titled Manimagudam, Ore Ratham, Palaniappan and many more. He was the president of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for past 49 years since the death of its founder, Annadurai. His body will be taken to his house in Gopalapuram, then to his daughter Kanimozhi’s house in CIT colony and finally to the Rajaji Hall where it will be kept for public viewing from morning 4:00 AM.
