L&T partners with ACWA power to build desalination plant in Saudi Arabia`

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on Thursday that its Water & Effluent Treatment (WET) Business, in partnership with Spain's Lantania, has secured a contract with ACWA Power, a developer based in the Middle East.
The contract involves constructing the Ras Mohaisen Desalination Plant in Saudi Arabia. According to a regulatory filing, L&T's WET Business is the lead partner in this joint venture with Lantania. The capacity of the Ras Mohaisen desalination plant is 300,000 m/day. "It encompasses intake and outfall facilities, process units, pumping stations, 600,000 cubic meters of potable water storage facility, electrical special facility and associated works along with state-of-the-art automation and instrumentation systems," L&T stated, adding that the project's scope includes the design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant.
The project's scope also includes a solar photovoltaic facility. The plant will provide drinking water to the Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Baha regions. This marks the second desalination project that L&T has secured in Saudi Arabia recently. As per the company’s classification, a 'significant' order is valued between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore, a 'large' order ranges from Rs 2,500 crore to Rs 5,000 crore, a 'major' order falls between Rs 5,000 crore and Rs 7,000 crore, and a 'mega' order is valued above Rs 7,000 crore.
