A Liberia-flagged LPG tanker carrying nine Indian nationals was reportedly hit by a drone while sailing eastbound outside the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday. The vessel, M.T. Al Maryah, suffered no major damage in the attack, according to the Directorate of Maritime Administration.

The tanker’s power and main engine remain operational after the reported drone strike. The vessel has since reached a safe location and is currently anchored at Khor Fakkan.

 Nineteen crew members are on board the LPG tanker, including nine Indian nationals. All crew members have been confirmed safe, the report said. No casualties were reported.

Six Indian-flagged vessels and seven foreign-flagged vessels of Indian interest were operating in the west of the Strait of Hormuz. Together, these vessels had 145 Indian seafarers on board.

Nine vessels of Indian interest have also been identified for evacuation from the Persian Gulf area west of the Strait of Hormuz. The group includes both Indian-flagged vessels and foreign-flagged vessels bound for India. Seven of the vessels are carrying fertiliser cargo, while the remaining two are engaged in other operations.

So far, maritime authorities have recorded four incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels. Another 58 incidents have involved foreign-flagged vessels carrying Indian crew members. The incidents have affected Indian shipping and seafarers amid heightened security concerns around the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Persian Gulf region.

According to the report, the incidents recorded so far have resulted in 10 confirmed fatalities and 12 injuries. One additional death remains presumed. Authorities continue to monitor the movement and safety of Indian vessels and seafarers operating in the region.

Despite the reported drone strike on M.T. Al Maryah, the authorities recorded no new operational safety or security incidents involving Indian vessels or Indian seafarers on Sunday. The tanker remained operational after the incident and reached Khor Fakkan safely.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a key maritime route for energy shipments. Any security incident in or around the waterway can affect commercial shipping and raise concerns for crews operating in the region. Indian authorities are tracking vessels of Indian interest and identifying those that may require evacuation from areas considered vulnerable.
