On July 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the newly appointed Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof, shortly after the new Dutch government was inaugurated at Huis ten Bosch Palace.
Using the social media platform X, PM Modi expressed his eagerness to enhance the India-Netherlands bilateral relationship across multiple sectors on Tuesday.
“Congratulations Dick Schoof on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Look forward to closely working together to advance India-Netherlands partnership including in the areas of renewable energy, water management, agriculture, mobility, new and emerging technology,". PM Modi said in a post on the social media site X.
Earlier that day, the new Dutch government was sworn in, vowing to implement stringent immigration controls, following an election significantly influenced by a far-right, anti-Islam party.
In a post-inauguration interview with AP, Prime Minister Schoof recognised the greatest threat to the Netherlands as originating from "the east."
This marked the first change in the Netherlands' prime ministership in 14 years, as Dutch King Willem-Alexander officially installed the new government, with Schoof succeeding long-term Prime Minister Mark Rutte. He takes over from Mark Rutte after 14 years in power.
Schoof, who previously led the Dutch intelligence agency and counterterrorism office, formalised his new role by signing the official royal decree at Huis Ten Bosch Palace. The 67-year-old was sworn in alongside 15 other ministers, forming the country's right-leaning coalition government.
