The Lokayukta probe report on the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam, which involves Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his wife, and others, has revealed key details of the investigation. According to an exclusive report by India Today, the Lokayukta asked Siddaramaiah only 30 questions before submitting a “B report,” which effectively closed the case against him.
The Lokayukta inquiry ignored the findings of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which had thoroughly investigated the case and identified the key people involved. According to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's declaration to the Lokayukta, he was not directly involved in the land compensation matter involving his wife, Parvathi BM. “In 2014, my wife informed me about Muda developing the layout. Since I was the Chief Minister, I did not give any instructions,” he stated.
Additionally, he stated that he was not aware of Parvathi's letter to Muda seeking land compensation. Siddaramaiah added that he was notified by Dhruv Kumar, the chairman of the Muda, in 2017 that the body had decided to compensate Parvathi under the 50:50 model. “Since I was the Chief Minister, I told him I will not interfere in the decision of giving compensatory land under the 50:50 scheme to Parvathi Siddaramaiah,” he said.
In his 2018 and 2023 election affidavits, he claimed he could not remember if he had brought up the 14 locations. The Chief Minister acknowledged that he knew Dinesh Kumar, the official who approved the application for Katha (land registration) of the 14 sites. The ED investigation had pointed out Kumar’s involvement in the transaction, and earlier reports had already covered these findings in detail.
On Monday, the Special Court for Public Representatives heard the case, where petitioner Snehamayi Krishna requested the submission of the final report. The court instructed Krishna to review the report and file any objections if needed. Special Public Prosecutor Venkatesh Arabatti confirmed that the report would be provided today. The next hearing is scheduled for March 7, and Snehamayi Krishna will receive a copy of the final report.
