Former Pentagon official Michael Rubin compared Pakistan’s Army chief, Asim Munir, to the late Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, blaming Pakistan for its alleged involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Mr. Rubin, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, conveyed ANI, "The only difference between Osama Bin Laden and Asim Munir is that Osama Bin Laden lived in a cave and Asim Munir lives in a palace, but beyond that, the two are the same, and their end should also be the same."
He said the proper way to respond to the Pahalgam attack would be for the United States to label Pakistan as a state sponsor of terrorism officially and to designate Asim Munir as a terrorist. Mr. Rubin used the phrase "lipstick on a pig" to emphasise that the Jammu and Kashmir attack should not be portrayed as any kind of "spontaneous action." He added, "As for the timing, just as there was a terrorist attack when Bill Clinton went to India, so too does it seem that Pakistan wants to draw attention away from Vice President JD Vance's trip to India."
As the victims of Tuesday’s deadly attack at Baisaran meadow were brought back to their hometowns for their final rites, India responded with a series of decisive diplomatic actions against Pakistan.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced that Pakistani military attaches would be expelled, the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 would be suspended, and the Attari land transit point would be closed immediately due to the attack’s suspected cross-border connections. He also stated that India and Pakistan would reduce the number of officials in their respective high commissions from 55 to 30 by May 1. The foreign secretary announced that Pakistani citizens will no longer be allowed to enter India using the SAARC visa exemption scheme (SVES), and any Pakistani national currently in the country under this visa has 48 hours to leave. He also stated that "the defence, military, naval and air advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi are declared persona non grata" and have been given one week to exit India.
