In response to demands from the Congress-led opposition for action against a media house accused of misquoting Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) stated on Saturday that no legal measures are necessary, as the media outlet has issued an apology.
LDF convener T P Ramakrishnan emphasised that since the media house has apologised for its actions, there is no need to pursue legal action. “They have apologised. So, why are you so adamant that a case has to be registered against it?” he remarked while addressing reporters about the lack of action against the media house. This statement reflects the LDF's position on handling media relations, indicating a preference for resolution through dialogue rather than legal confrontations.
Ramakrishnan further asserted that the Left front maintains a respectful approach toward the media and expresses strong criticism when it believes incorrect reporting has occurred. “So, we should take all this in a friendly manner,” he added, highlighting the party's belief in constructive criticism and communication.
The ruling party, along with Chief Minister Vijayan, has faced backlash from the opposition over claims of using public relations agencies to arrange his interviews, particularly after the CM was allegedly misquoted in a recent interview. The opposition has raised concerns about transparency and accountability in the Chief Minister's communications.
Earlier, the opposition Congress accused Vijayan of attempting to "appease majority communalism" following statements attributed to him, suggesting that gold smuggling and hawala activities were more prevalent in the Malappuram district. In response, the Chief Minister and his office denied having made any such remarks during the interview, insisting that the quotes were taken out of context.
