In a resounding victory, Sir Keir Starmer delivered an electrifying victory speech on Friday morning after the Labour Party swept the UK general election. Declaring the nation had "got its future back after 14 years" under Conservative rule, a jubilant Prime Minister-elect Starmer addressed supporters with a beaming smile and to raucous applause, saying, "We did it. You campaigned for it, fought for it, voted for it, and now it has arrived. And it feels good, to be honest."
Labour has surpassed the crucial majority mark of 326 seats and is on track to exceed exit poll predictions with over 400 seats in the 650-seat House of Commons. This overwhelming victory led outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to concede and promise a "peaceful and orderly" transition of power. The Conservatives were projected to win just 131 seats, which would be the worst result in its almost 200-year history.
Starmer expressed deep gratitude to party workers for their sincere efforts over the past nearly five years, which involved significant revamping and rebranding of Labour in the face of Conservative dominance. He urged his supporters to savour this monumental moment but also cautioned about the challenges ahead, pledging that his government would focus on "national renewal."
"We did it. Thank you truly... you have changed our country," Starmer proclaimed to a sea of supporters at a dawn victory rally in central London. "Four-and-a-half years of work changing this party... this is what it is for. A changed Labour... ready to restore Britain to the service of the working people."
