The political temperature has once again heated up as Mallikarjun Kharge’s frontal attack left everyone stunned. While campaigning for his party in Jammu & Kashmir, Congress chief made a controversial remark that did not go well with the opposition. About three months have passed since the conclusion of the Lok Sabha election, during which the INDI Alliance emerged as the game changer and created substantial obstacles for the BJP's attempts to establish a government.
During his rally at the Anantnag, the president of the Congress did not spare any opportunity to disparage the BJP. Kharge used the Lok Sabha election scenario as the speech's main inspiration. In a heated remark, he said that INDI Alliance needed twenty more seats to throw the Modi government out of power and put them in jail. Kharge’s remark left a controversy in the political arena. He further stated that these people deserve to be behind bars.
In his speech, he remarked, "Where did those who crossed 400 go? They got reduced to 240 seats. If we had secured 20 more seats, all these people would have been in jail. These people deserve to be in jail." His words were boastful, showcasing the confidence he drove from the Lok Sabha election.
On the other hand, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla termed the remarks reflective of the Congress party's "dictatorial" mindset, alluding to the Emergency imposed by the Congress during the mid-1970s. Poonawalla said, “This is an example of Congress’ ‘Emergency’ mindset. He wants to put leaders in opposition in jail, Indira Gandhi put people in jail and Congress wants to continue that legacy. They do not say anything when the Trinamool Congress behaves dictatorially in Bengal and yet calls other parties dictatorial.”
He further quoted that Kharge had earlier remarked that if Congress wins in Kashmir, they would exert their control over all of India, as he quotes, "If we win Jammu and Kashmir elections, then entire India will be under our control,” Kharge had said during an earlier visit to the state.
During a visit to Anantnag, Kharge said the BJP had "panicked" when it learnt the National Conference and Congress are contesting the Kashmir elections together.
