The Khalistanis in Canada are at it again. After criticising India and blaming the country for their woes, they have now turned against Canadians themselves.
In a blatant display of entitlement, supporters of Khalistan called Canadians "invaders" and urged them to "go back to England and Europe," according to a two-minute video of a "Nagar Kirtan" that went viral in the country. “This is Canada, our own country. You [Canadians] go back," the procession can be heard chanting.
The episode was referred to as the "new normal" in Canada by Indian intelligence sources, who said that Khalistanis were gradually "capturing" every part of the nation. “In the absence of proper surveillance, these groups are taking over control from local Canadians too. Hindus are being asked money for protection and now, there is a threat to locals in their colonies." India and Canada's relationship soured after Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani sympathiser who India had designated a terrorist, was killed last year.
The top diplomats from both countries were expelled after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Canadian police were looking into claims that Indian agents, and possibly the Indian government, were directly involved in the killing that took place in June 2023. India has denounced the accusations as "preposterous" and charged Trudeau with harbouring Khalistanis who are attacking Hindus in Canada in addition to conspiring against India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a statement denouncing the "deliberate attack" in response to the recent surge in attacks on Hindu devotees in Canadian temples.
Meanwhile, Indian government and intelligence agencies believe that Trudeau is supporting Khalistani groups in order to secure the support of MP Jagmeet Singh in the upcoming election, as the latter has fallen in popularity and is having difficulty holding his government together. This is especially true after he acknowledged that his accusations against India were based solely on intelligence and that he lacked "concrete evidence."
Intel sources had said then, “Trudeau is behaving in a childish way by accusing India for everything without realising how he is playing in the hands of ISI and Khalistanis. These allegations are damaging bilateral ties and spoiling his personal image." In response to Trudeau's claim that he was informed by some Members of Parliament about India's role in the murder, intelligence officials earlier stated that the prime minister ought to identify the lawmakers "so that we can also reply with their credentials."
“The Canadian Parliament is full of Khalistan sympathisers and they have taken Trudeau for a ride. How can a prime minister, on the basis of only intelligence given by some individuals, name and blame a country for a killing? Trudeau’s behaviour is not like that of a responsible prime minister and he has spoiled relations between two countries."
