A group of Khalistani extremists tried to ruin India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's visit to London by staging a protest that turned into a serious security breach. As Jaishankar was leaving a discussion at Chatham House, a protester ran towards his car and ripped the Indian flag right in front of the police.
A shocking video has surfaced online, showing a protester charging aggressively towards External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's convoy in London. The man brazenly tore the Indian flag as others chanted slogans, while police officers seemed hesitant to intervene initially. Soon, they quickly detained the protesters and other extremists.
Khalistani extremists staged a protest outside the venue in London where External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was participating in a discussion. The video showed protestors waving flags and chanting pro-Khalistani slogans. This incident happened during Jaishankar's official UK visit from March 4 to 9.
Jaishankar held discussions with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy at Chevening House on bilateral issues such as strategic coordination, political cooperation, trade negotiations, education, technology, mobility and cultural exchanges between people. During a talk at Chatham House, he was asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi could use former US President Donald Trump's eagerness for peace to help resolve the Kashmir issue with Pakistan. Jaishankar firmly defended India’s stance, rejecting the need for any third-party involvement. He emphasised that India had already taken significant steps, including the abrogation of Article 370, economic progress in the region, and holding elections with a high voter turnout.
However, he stressed that the remaining issue was outside India's control. "I think the part we are waiting for is the return of the stolen part of Kashmir, which is under an illegal Pakistani occupation. When that's done, I assure you, Kashmir solved," S Jaishankar stated.
On Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) responded to the security breach during External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's visit to the UK. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal strongly condemned the "provocative activities" and criticised the actions of a "small group of separatists and extremists" in an official statement. The incident happened in London, where Jaishankar attended a session titled ‘India’s Rise and Role in the World.’
"We have seen the footage of a breach of security during the visit of EAM to the UK. We condemn the provocative activities of this small group of separatists and extremists. We deplore the misuse of democratic freedoms by such elements. We expect the host government in such cases to fully live up to their diplomatic obligations," as per the MEA statement.
While speaking at the session on Wednesday, Jaishankar addressed several key international issues. When asked about his views on Trump’s reciprocal tariffs, he remarked, "We see a president and an administration which, in our parlance, is moving towards multipolarity, and that is something that suits India." So, regarding tariffs, the minister mentioned that Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is in Washington right now to talk about a bilateral trade agreement.
Earlier, Jaishankar met British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street in London, where he conveyed “warm greetings” to PM Starmer from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Jaishankar stated that his meeting with the UK Prime Minister included discussions on bilateral cooperation and the UK's stance on Russia-Ukraine conflict.
