Canadian police have arrested Arshdeep Singh Gill, also known as Arsh Dalla, a Khalistan extremist designated as a terrorist by India. Dalla's arrest comes after a shooting incident that occurred on October 28 in Milton, Ontario. Indian authorities have long sought Dalla's detention due to his alleged connections to various criminal and terror-related activities.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) reported on October 29 that two men were apprehended in relation to the shooting, with both charged with “discharging a firearm with intent.” The police revealed that the suspects were initially identified after they arrived at a hospital, where one of the men received treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound before being discharged. According to PTI sources, one of the suspects is believed to be Arsh Dalla.
In a statement, HRPS said, "The HRPS Major Crime Bureau is now investigating, and both males have been arrested. A 25-year-old male from Halton Hills and a 28-year-old male from Surrey, BC, have both been charged with Discharging Firearm with Intent." The police added that the investigation is ongoing to uncover further details surrounding the incident.
Dalla is known for his affiliation with the banned Khalistan Tiger Force, as indicated in an official gazette notification by India’s Home Ministry. Born in Ludhiana, Punjab, Dalla was designated as a terrorist by India in 2023 and is reportedly associated with Hardeep Singh Nijjar, another known Khalistan separatist who was killed in Surrey, British Columbia, in June 2023.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) notification lists Dalla as an accused in multiple cases registered and investigated by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA). Charges against him include murder, extortion, terror financing, cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons, and disrupting communal harmony in Punjab.
Adding to Dalla’s ongoing network, Punjab Police recently apprehended two of his alleged associates involved in the killing of Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau, who operated a YouTube channel, "Hari Nau Talks." In a statement, Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, noted that the arrests were part of a coordinated effort by the state’s special operations, the Anti-Gangster Task Force, and Faridkot Police. The suspects, identified as Anmolpreet Singh alias Vishal from Barnala and Navjot Singh alias Neetu from Kharar, were allegedly instructed by Dalla to target Hari Nau.
As both Indian and Canadian authorities intensify their scrutiny of Dalla’s activities and affiliations, his arrest marks a significant moment in the ongoing efforts to counter the influence of pro-Khalistan networks operating across borders.
