The person was taken into custody in Hyderabad on Sunday evening on suspicion of planning the murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, whose body was discovered in a septic tank in Chhattisgarh last week. The assassination is said to have been planned by Suresh Chandrakar, a contractor and distant relative of the journalist. Ever since the murder was discovered, he has been disappeared.
The police claim Suresh Chandrakar took shelter at his driver's house in Hyderabad. The cops looked through 200 CCTVs' worth of material and tracked down about 300 cellphone numbers to find him. According to authorities, he is now being questioned by the police.
In the past, Suresh Chandrakar's illegally built yard shed and four bank accounts were blocked. According to police, Suresh Chandrakar's wife has also been arrested and is being questioned in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh.
Last Monday, Mukesh Chandrakar's body was discovered in a septic tank at a contractor's shed in Bastar, Chhattisgarh. On New Year's Day, the independent journalist who contributes to NDTV was last spotted leaving his Bijapur residence. Yukesh, the journalist's brother, reported him missing the next day after he failed to return. Police discovered the 32-year-old's corpse close to his house after starting an inquiry.
A post-mortem report states that Mukesh Chandrakar was severely injured in the head, chest, back and stomach after being struck with a large item. His hand had a tattoo that identified his body. In the case, three people have been taken into custody, including two of Chandrakar's family members. Mahendra Ramteke, a supervisor, and Dinesh Chandrakar, another victim's family, were caught in Bijapur on Saturday, while his cousin Ritesh Chandrakar was nabbed from Raipur airport.
After a fight broke out over dinner, the journalist's cousin Ritesh and the supervisor Mahendra struck Chandrakar with an iron rod, killing him instantly, according to the preliminary inquiry. To hide the murder, the two then placed the body inside a septic tank and sealed it with cement. They also threw away the iron rod they used to murder Chandrakar, as well as his phone. Suresh Chandrakar was thought to have devised the concept, while Dinesh Chandrakar was said to have overseen the tank's cementing.
The murder of Mukesh Chandrakar was described as "terrible, painful, and utterly wrong" by Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma. He also promised forceful action.
The Chhattisgarh government was asked to take action to safeguard journalists, especially those engaged in investigative and field reporting after the Press Association and the Editors Guild of India denounced the event.
