Kerala Director General of Police Anil Kant has ordered the Thiruvananthapuram police commissioner Sparjan Kumar to register an FIR against the teaser of the movie The Kerala Story.
A source in Kerala Police Headquarters confirmed that State Police Chief (SPC) Anil Kant on Tuesday directed the Thiruvananthapuram city police Commissioner to register a case and look into the complaint by a Tamil Nadu-based journalist.
As per the Kerala Police, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan received a complaint after which the High Tech Enquiry Cell of the State's police conducted a preliminary inquiry and sent the report to the DGP. The complaint comes after the movie's teaser sparked outrage for allegedly portraying the State as a safe haven for terrorists.
The teaser of the movie released last week claimed that more than 32,000 women from Kerala had been converted to Islam and recruited to the terrorist group Islamic State.
Tamil Nadu-based journalist Aravindakshan BR, in the complaint to the union ministry and film certification board chairperson Prasoon Joshi, sought a ban on the release of the movie. 'The Kerala Story' is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Sudipto Sen. The journalist said that concerned authorities should ask the makers of the movie to provide evidence based on real data verified by India's intelligence agencies.
The teaser features actor Adah Sharma. She introduces herself as Shalini Unnikrishnan, who wanted to become a nurse and serve humanity. However, Unnikrishnan was forcibly converted to Islam. She then became a terrorist. The character of the movie claimed that religious conversions are on the rise in Kerala. Notably, so far, there is no official report in the public domain that proved that 32,000 women from Kerala joined ISIS in the past 10 years.
