In a recent TV interview, veteran CPM leader P Jayarajan—once a close aide to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan—stated that IS recruitment is becoming more common in Kerala, particularly among young people from Kannur. According to him, organisations like Jamaat-e-Islami and the Popular Front of India even advocate for the concept of a theocratic state. Jayarajan worries that many young people are moving away from Political Islam. Speaking to an anchor about one of his books, he made the statement.
According to Jayarajan, Islamic fundamentalism has spread to many parts of the world and in large numbers, many youths from Kannur and Kasaragod have been joining IS, and this needs to be taken seriously. He further elaborated on some statistics in this regard and stated that four youths from Kannur were slain in an encounter with Indian forces in Kupwara, Kashmir.
A book that will be released in October discusses the hold that Islamic terrorist organizations have over Kannur's youth. The author knows the book is going to be thoroughly mauled in public criticism but does not quake with fear. The author wants democratic attacks and believes society needs an upheaval. Janam TV, which was influenced by Sangh, broke the first report about IS recruitment. However, at that time, Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister, and other CPM leaders dismissed it. Additionally, "Kerala Story," a film that focused on IS recruitment, was rejected by CPM. The movie, according to CPM, was an RSS agenda.
Jayarajan has now disclosed the information that CPM has been hiding because of minority vote bank politics. The claim that CPM backs Islamic fundamentalism is frequently made. There are claims that when candidates with ties to the SDPI run for office, the CPM prevails. It is regarded as having an "understanding." Ongoing CPM branch meetings will set the stage for meetings at the Area, District, State, and eventually the Party Congress at the federal level. Analysts predict that Jayarajan's disclosures will spark contentious debates.
The CPM ranks firmly believe that the PV Anwar-KT Jaleel combination will introduce Islamic fundamentalist politics into the party. In this light, Jayarajan's revelations should be interpreted. Jayarajan is a member of the CPM state committee. He was the CPM district secretary for Kannur in the past. He was formerly a party member of the state secretariat. During the height of CPM murder politics against RSS, BJP, and Sangh-inspired organisations, he led Kannur CPM.
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government led by Chief Minister EK Nayanar moved Pinarayi Vijayan to Thiruvananthapuram in 1996, and the Jayarajan trio—P. Jayarajan, E.P. Jayarajan, and MV Jayarajan—took over as leaders of the party in Kannur district. The Kannur district secretary at the moment is MV Jayarajan. It seems that P Jayarajan has not been on Pinarayi's good side for the past few years. A few weeks ago, EP Jayarajan, the LDF Convener until recently, was shown the door. He is now viewed as an unhappy comrade.
