The Congress-led government in Karnataka is prepared to unveil the 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme, which will provide a monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 to approximately 1.1 crore women who are the heads of their families. This program is scheduled to be inaugurated during an event in Mysuru.
In preparation for the launch, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy D K Shivakumar paid homage at the renowned Chamundeshwari temple located in the district's headquarters town of Mysuru. The official inauguration of the scheme will be conducted by AICC President M Mallikarjun Kharge at the same event. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is also expected to be in attendance.
"As many as 1.1 crore women heads of households will be given Rs 2,000 every month," Siddararamaiah told reporters in Mysuru, his home district.
According to reliable reports, the government has allocated a substantial budget of Rs 17,500 crore for the current fiscal year to fund the ambitious 'Gruha Lakshmi' program. This program stands as a significant component among the five pre-election 'guarantees' put forth by the Congress party, a strategy that notably contributed to their triumph over the BJP in the Assembly elections held earlier in May.
Anticipation is mounting as the upcoming public event, slated to mark the official inauguration of the flagship 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme, is expected to attract a crowd of around one lakh attendees.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has underlined the event's status as a government function. He has clarified that AICC President M Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are set to participate in the event in their capacities as Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and as Lok Sabha member, respectively.
Notably, the state government has demonstrated its commitment by successfully implementing three out of the five pre-election 'guarantees': 'Shakti,' 'Gruha Jyothi,' and 'Anna Bhagya.' The forthcoming 'Gruha Lakshmi' initiative serves as the fourth endeavor in this series. As part of the party's holistic approach, the fifth guarantee, known as the 'Yuva Nidhi' scheme, pledges to provide unemployment allowance to the state's burgeoning youth population.
