The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has expelled former party general secretary Kripa Alva for six years with immediate effect over her alleged involvement in a sting operation targeting Congress leaders in the state.
The expulsion order, issued by KPCC Vice-President M Narayanaswamy, said the controversy had embarrassed the party and attracted negative publicity and media reactions.
"As your name has figured in this sting operation case and your conduct in the matter amounts to anti-party activities, on the instructions of the Hon'ble KPCC President, you are hereby expelled from the party for a period of six years with immediate effect," the order stated.
The order also mentioned that the party had issued a show-cause notice to Alva, seeking an explanation over her alleged involvement in the incident. However, she had not submitted any response so far.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had accused Alva of being the mastermind behind the alleged defamatory video. He has also secured a court injunction preventing media houses from airing or publishing the video.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru Police, which investigated the alleged sting operation targeting Siddaramaiah, said on Thursday that the video's claim of sexual abuse was part of a "fabricated and deliberately constructed narrative."
The police further stated that the statements and evidence collected during the investigation did not support any such incident mentioned in the video.
