A serious case of rape, honey trapping, and sexual harassment has been registered against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Munirathna and six others. The incident allegedly took place at a private resort near Bengaluru. Karnataka Police confirmed that the case was filed at the Kaggalipura police station in the Ramanagara district. The charges are based on the complaint of a woman who accused the group of raping her at the resort.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the charges include various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), such as 354A (sexual harassment), 354C (voyeurism), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 149 (unlawful assembly), 384 (extortion), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide). The other accused individuals include Vijay Kumar, Sudhakara, Kiran Kumar, Lohit Gowda, Manjunath, and Loki.
At present, Munirathna is already in the custody of Bengaluru police in a separate case involving threats against a contractor. He was arrested on the night of September 14, with assistance from Kolar police, while he was travelling to Andhra Pradesh. The contractor, Chaluvaraju, has accused Munirathna of threatening him over a financial dispute. Chaluvaraju stated that the MLA demanded ₹20 lakhs and threatened, “What happened to Renukaswamy will happen to you,” referring to an alleged murder.
Chaluvaraju had offered ₹1 lakh, but Munirathna allegedly refused, insisting on the full amount. An audio clip has also gone viral, purportedly featuring Munirathna using abusive language and threatening the contractor, a Dalit individual, and his wife.
Today, Munirathna’s bail plea for the contractor-related case will be heard by the Special Court of People's Representatives. If bail is granted, it is expected that the Kaggalipura police will take him into custody regarding the sexual harassment and rape case. If bail is denied, the police will file a body warrant as per legal procedure.
The case involving sexual harassment, rape, and honey trapping has further intensified scrutiny on Munirathna, especially with the ongoing allegations regarding his threats against the contractor. These legal battles are being closely watched, and the outcomes could have significant political and legal ramifications for the MLA and the others involved.
