On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the decision of two Hurriyat-linked groups to distance themselves from separatism in Jammu and Kashmir. He called it a "significant victory" for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a peaceful and united India.
Shah’s response came shortly after a major development, where two organisations linked to the Hurriyat Conference announced that they were cutting ties with separatism in Jammu and Kashmir. “Separatism has become history in Kashmir. The unifying policies of the Modi government have tossed separatism out of J&K. Two organisations associated with the Hurriyat have announced the severing of all ties with separatism,” Shah wrote in a post on the social media platform X.
“I welcome this step towards strengthening Bharat’s unity and urge all such groups to come forward and shed separatism once and for all. It is a big victory for PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision of building a developed, peaceful and unified Bharat,” Shah added. The decision by the two Hurriyat-linked groups reflects the changing political situation in the Union Territory. In recent years, the government has taken strict steps to control separatist activities, including enforcing anti-terror laws and introducing socio-economic reforms.
Officials believe that this development marks a major change in Jammu and Kashmir’s political situation, opening the door for greater integration and peace.
