On Thursday evening, a terrorist attack targeted a military truck transporting supplies near the Nagin area of Botapathri in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir. The incident resulted in the tragic loss of two soldiers from the 18 Rashtriya Rifles and two civilian porters. Additionally, three soldiers sustained injuries during the attack.
The area, which is predominantly under Army control, has previously witnessed terrorist infiltration, particularly during early summer when a terrorist group was believed to have taken refuge in the higher reaches of the Afrawat range. Authorities continue to assess the situation as investigations are underway.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack. "Very unfortunate news about the attack on the army vehicles in the Boota Pathri area of North Kashmir which has resulted in some casualties & injuries. This recent spate of attacks in Kashmir is a matter of serious concern. I condemn this attack is the strongest possible terms & send my condolences to the loved ones of the people who lost their lives. I also pray that injured make a complete & swift recovery," Abdullah said in his X post.
The attack on the military truck in Botapathri occurred just hours after a migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh, identified as Shubam Kumar, was shot and injured by unidentified terrorists in the Batgund Tral area of Pulwama. Shubam, a resident of Bijnore, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm during the assault.
Prior to these incidents, on October 20, a deadly attack at a tunnel construction site along the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Ganderbal district resulted in the deaths of a doctor and six construction workers. This attack marked one of the worst assaults on civilians in recent months and transpired just days after Omar Abdullah took his oath of office.
The Ganderbal attack involved unidentified assailants who targeted the labourers as they returned to their camp in Gund late in the evening. The attackers, believed to be at least two in number, opened indiscriminate fire on the group, which comprised both local and non-local workers.
Home Minister Amit Shah has issued a warning to those behind the "dastardly" terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal. "The dastardly terror attack on civilians in Gagangir, J&K, is a despicable act of cowardice. Those involved in this heinous act will not be spared and will face the harshest response from our security forces. At this moment of immense grief, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured," he said in a post on X.
The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack on a tunnel construction site along the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Ganderbal district that resulted in the deaths of a doctor and six construction workers.
In a related context, earlier this month, the bullet-riddled body of a non-local man was discovered in the Wachi area of Zainapora in Shopian district, further highlighting the region's ongoing violence and insecurity.
Amidst these troubling developments, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently convened a significant meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. The 30-minute discussion focused on crucial issues concerning the region, including the restoration of statehood and the advancement of developmental projects aimed at improving conditions in the Union Territory.
