Prime Minister Narendra Modi lashed out at the Jharkhand ruling alliance of JMM, Congress, and RJD for supporting illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Rohingya for vote bank politics. Modi addressing the BJP 'Parivartan Maha rally' at Gopal Maidan in Jamshedpur on Sunday launched an attack on the alliance. Modi referred to Congress as the "most dishonest and corrupt party" and said JMM is learning corruption from Congress as he terms JMM a “trainee of Congress school of corruption”. Modi also attacked the JMM government for turning a blind eye to the infiltration problem, despite the Jharkhand High Court's order for an independent investigation.
In his speech, Modi claimed that the demography of the Kolhan and Santhal Parganas regions has changed as a result of illegal migration. He accused the JMM of being in support of Bangladesh and the Rohingya minority. Illegal immigration and the demographic change that it brings is a key election plank of the BJP in this tribal-majority state. Modi took offence at the JMM's "humiliation" of former chief minister Champai Soren.
During his time in Jharkhand, Prime Minister Modi virtually inaugurated several schemes amounting to Rs 660 crores in a virtual event from Ranchi earlier on Sunday. In the same virtual event, Prime Minister Modi digitally issued sanctioned letters to 32,000 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) and disbursed the first instalment of Rs 32 crores for building construction. Meanwhile, he also digitally provided keys to 46,000 PMAY-G beneficiaries across the country.
The weather in Jamshedpur caused the cancellation of PM Modi's roadshow. As a result of the bad weather, he reached Jamshedpur from Ranchi via road. Reaching Jamshedpur Modi launched a rally and began his speech. During his speech, he said, “Jharkhand has three big enemies -- the JMM, RJD and the Congress. The RJD is still taking revenge on Jharkhand for its formation and the Congress outright despises Jharkhand. The Congress party ruled the country for decades, yet they never allowed the Dalit, backward, and tribal communities to progress… Just a few days ago, the Jharkhand High Court ordered an independent panel to investigate this infiltration. However, the JMM government refuses to acknowledge that infiltration is happening in Jharkhand. Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltration poses a significant threat in Santhal Pargana and Kolhan”.
"In Santhal Pargana, the tribal population is decreasing at an alarming rate. The lands of the local people are being seized. Infiltrators are taking control of panchayats and the system and incidents of atrocities against daughters are rising. The truth is, the JMM is siding with these Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators,” he further said. Along with other initiatives, the Prime Minister mentioned the PM-Janman scheme, Janjatiya Gaurav Divas on Birsa Munda's birth anniversary, and the 400 Eklavya residential schools as actions taken by the Central government to support the tribal people.
When Mr Modi arrived in Ranchi earlier on Sunday, he wrote on X about how the customary tribal ritual of "Karma Puja" welcomed him. “This morning, when I reached Ranchi airport, a sister welcomed me with a ‘Jahva’, a sign of Karma Parv. In this festival, sisters pray for their brother’s well-being.” On this Karma Parv, he also sent his best wishes to the people of Jharkhand. Many different tribal populations celebrate the Karma festival, especially those in Jharkhand and West Bengal. The prime minister also emphasised that, since 2014, a great deal of work has been done to empower the country's poor, Dalit, underprivileged, and tribal families.
“On one hand, the poor and the middle class living in the cities here sweat over every single rupee. On the other hand, hundreds of crores in cash are recovered from the residences of this government’s ministers and MPs and from their servants' hideouts. There are scams worth thousands of crores. Remember how mountains of cash were found in Jharkhand? That was your money,” Modi condemned the rampant corruption in the state. He also assured actions against all those involved.
