On Thursday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party, JD(U), charged Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) founder Prashant Kishor of illegally using funds from a charitable organisation to finance his political activities and called for an investigation into the matter.
JD(U) chief spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar alleged that Kishor received financial support from the Joy of Giving Global Foundation (JGGF), a company registered under the Companies Act. He claimed that JGGF was engaged in political activities under the pretence of being a charitable foundation while also profiting from tax exemptions.
He accused the charitable foundation of serious financial irregularities, highlighting that it received donations totalling ₹48.75 crores from various companies during the 2023-24 period. He pointed out an unusual aspect of these transactions, alleging that the capital base of the donor companies was lower than the amount they contributed. He also demanded that Kishor clarify why he donated ₹50 lakh to the foundation and whether the money came from his personal or “unaccounted-for” income.
He pointed out inconsistencies in the financial statements of Kishor and Rambali Singh, the chief of the party’s EBC Cell. While Kishor asserted that the party was financially stable, Singh claimed that it did not even have a bank account.
During a recent casual conversation with a group of journalists, Kishor stated that he was financing the party using the money he earned as a political strategist while working with multiple political parties. When asked about the party’s funding, he confidently remarked, “Don’t need to bother about funds to run the party. I will use my ‘skill’ and earn crores of rupees.”
