It isn't the first time that Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Jawhar Sircar has been the locus of controversy for his outrageous statements. This time, it comes as a cheap shot geared towards the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman.
In a recent tweet, Jawhar wrote: "Ever wondered why @narendramodi selected Nirmala Sitharaman as his FM to sell off our national assets? Answer is that she has experience in sales at Habitat, a home decor store in London's Regent Street."
The derogatory tweet came attached with an image of the Finance Minister with text that read, "From selling 'home decors', to 'national assets', what an inspiring story."
It did not take long for netizens to immediately sabotage this jibe. The heavy handed jibe came in the form of a netizen's tweet that came along with a picture depicting a young Mamata Banerjee dancing on top of the erstwhile PM Indira Gandhi's firm opposition, Jayaprakash Narayan's car.
Moreover, the tweet read, "From dancing on the bonnet of Jayprakash Narayan's car to dancing on the dead bodies of Bengali Hindus - Mamata Banerjee has come a long way."
Soon after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday presented the Union Budget 2022, TMC MP Derek O'Brien took a dig at the Centre and commented that "Diamonds are this government's best friend." Moreover, he claimed that the Budget 2022 has not included anything for the farmers, middle class, daily earners and the unemployed.
Even West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter earlier in the day wherein she wrote, "Budget has zero for common people, who are crushed by unemployment and inflation. Government is lost in big words signifying nothing-a Pegasus spin Budget."
To this, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national vice-president Dilip Ghosh stated Banerjee, who only borrows money from the Centre, has no idea of what a budget means, "Mamata Banerjee runs a 5 rupee government, what does she know about the Budget? She takes loans from the Central government and distributes them among people without responsibility. She would not understand the budget, her budget is made hurriedly walking on the treadmill."
