YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and leader of the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its allies of committing severe atrocities against his party members.
In the letter shared recently, Reddy detailed a series of alarming incidents. He claimed that within just one month, 31 people were murdered, 35 individuals committed suicide, 560 private properties and 490 government properties were vandalised or destroyed, and approximately 2,700 people were forced to flee their villages.
In his letter, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy strongly protested that there have been over 1,050 incidents of violence and attacks aimed at his party, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). He criticised the current administration in Andhra Pradesh, accusing it of neglecting law and order responsibilities.
Reddy pointed out that these incidents are not isolated, but part of a systematic effort to suppress the YSRCP and eliminate its presence from the political landscape. This assertion comes in the wake of the recent murder of Sheikh Rashid, a prominent YSRCP activist in Vinukonda.
Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to visit Sheikh Rashid's family to offer condolences and express his support. The visit underscores his concern over the escalating violence targeting his party members and supporters in Andhra Pradesh.
Reddy expressed serious worries about the worsening law and order situation and called for Central government agencies to investigate the incidents following the recent elections. He stressed that the state cannot persist under these circumstances, arguing that there are indications of a dysfunctional democratic government. Additionally, he pointed out concerns about the alleged ineffectiveness of the constitution, legal framework, and political system under the present administration.
Furthermore, Reddy criticised the TDP-led government for failing to assign postings to 27 IAS and 24 IPS officers, citing reasons known only to them. He implied that these actions signify significant administrative failures and a deficit in governance.
Due to the gravity of the situation, Reddy requested a meeting with Prime Minister Modi to personally apprise him of the state’s situation over the last 45 days. He emphasised the urgent necessity for intervention to restore law and order and to ensure justice for the victims of the reported incidents.
