In a milestone for space education in India, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has established Arunachal Pradesh's first space education lab in Keyi Panyor district. The facility, launched in collaboration with Vyomika Space Academy under the ISRO Space Tutor initiative, is set up at Government Higher Secondary School Yazali. The lab's inauguration, which took place on Wednesday, was led by State Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Education Minister Sona praised the local administration's initiative, describing it as a model effort in advancing space science education. He remarked, “The space education lab will pave the way for exploring the wonders of space for young minds, and the new district is setting a good example for the whole state to emulate.”
The Director of the Space Applications Centre (SAC) at ISRO, Nilesh Desai, highlighted India’s progress in space exploration. “India is making great strides in the field of space exploration, and exposure of young learners to space science would fasten India’s progress as a whole,” he noted, stressing the critical role of such initiatives in fostering India’s scientific development.
Local MLA Toko Tatung, who also attended the event, addressed students and teachers, underscoring the significance of integrating space science into education. He encouraged the school community to take full advantage of the new lab.
Deputy Commissioner of Keyi Panyor, Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, shared her thoughts on the importance of inspiring the youth. “It is an initiative to not only educate but also inspire young minds to dream bigger,” she said, expressing hope that the lab will nurture students' curiosity about space and beyond.
This pioneering space education lab marks a step forward for science education in the region, aiming to provide hands-on exposure to space science and nurture a generation of future explorers.
