Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon's Tyr region killed at least 11 people and injured 48 more, the Lebanese Ministry said, as reported by AFP. These strikes occurred weeks after earlier military actions by Israel in the region. Previous reports from Al Jazeera in late October mentioned that Israeli strikes had damaged several heritage sites and left 16 people injured.
These fresh attacks come after an Israeli airstrike in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, on Sunday that killed Mohammed Afif, the head of Hezbollah's public relations department, according to the Times of Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also confirmed the killing of "Chief Propagandist and Spokesperson of Hezbollah, Mohammed Afif" in a post on the social media platform X.
“Afif was a senior Hezbollah military operative, in contact with senior officials and directly involved in advancing and executing Hezbollah's terrorist activities against Israel,” as claimed by the Israeli Defense Forces. "Messages broadcasted by Afif to the Lebanese media glorified and incited terrorist activities against Israel and he was responsible for numerous psychological terror operations against the Israeli public,” it added. The IDF further said, "Afif's impact on the terrorist organisation proves that he was directly involved in Hezbollah's terrorist activity against the State of Israel.”
The attacks on Tyr and the Hezbollah spokesperson's death follow Sunday's assault on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence. Three suspects were arrested for throwing flares at Netanyahu's residence. Earlier in October, a Hezbollah drone targeted Netanyahu's private home. Pictures shared by Israeli media showed cracks in a bedroom window caused by the drone, but it didn't break through.
