The Israeli military declared on Tuesday that it had conducted "targeted ground raids" in villages located in the southern region of Lebanon. These attacks, which are being backed by artillery and airstrikes, started a few hours ago and are targeted at Hezbollah militants in the vicinity of the Israel-Lebanon border, a military statement said.
The statement issued by Israel’s military said, “The IDF began limited, localised, and targeted ground raids based on precise intelligence against Hezbollah terrorist targets and infrastructure in southern Lebanon.” According to the Jerusalem Post, the IDF will be executing "a methodical plan set out by the General Staff and the Northern Command, which soldiers have trained and prepared for in recent months."
The group's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an airstrike in Beirut on Friday, two days prior to the most recent attacks. Israel reportedly carried out at least six strikes on south Beirut, according to a Lebanese security official, following an order from the Israeli army for residents to leave the Hezbollah stronghold, as reported by AFP.
Israel pledged to continue its war against Hezbollah in the face of calls from around the world for a de-escalation. Even after the massive strike on Beirut on Friday that killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and dealt a severe blow to the organisation, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant issued a warning, saying the "battle was not over."
While on the other hand, Naim Qassem, the deputy leader of Hezbollah, declared in his first public speech since Nasrallah's passing, that his group is prepared to battle Israel. According to a statement from the group, they "targeted" Israeli troops in orchards close to the border with Lebanon.
