Intel has announced a strategic partnership with eight Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) firms and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) to boost laptop production in India. This collaboration taps into Intel's vast knowledge in the IT sector to offer vital technological and operational guidance, paving the way for a thriving laptop manufacturing sector in the nation. This effort aligns with Intel's dedication to fostering technology-driven growth in harmony with the Make in India initiative.
Indian companies joining Intel are Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, and VVDN Technologies Private Ltd. Some of these companies are entering the laptop manufacturing sector for the first time. The partnership between Intel and the Indian manufacturing network seeks to prepare these companies to address laptop demand, both domestically and globally.
Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, “I am very pleased that global organizations like Intel are partnering with India, helping to build and catalyze the electronics manufacturing ecosystem for laptops and compute. This aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to drive India's Digital Economy to $1 Trillion and enable the electronics manufacturing ecosystem to contribute $300 billion by 2025-26.”
In this partnership, Intel has shared its expertise to streamline the manufacturing of basic laptops in India. This involves implementing advanced Surface Mount Technology (SMT) assembly lines, setting up quality control procedures for components, and evaluating the final products. Additionally, Intel has offered assistance to Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) in both Semi Knocked Down (SKD) and Completely Knocked Down (CKD) processes.
Santhosh Viswanathan, VP & MD, India Region, Intel, described the collaboration as a pivotal moment for the Indian electronics industry. "Bringing in Intel's technology-related investments and global system supply chain ecosystem knowledge exemplifies our dedication to fostering electronic manufacturing capabilities in India. By enabling the laptop manufacturing process – from surface mount technology assembly to finished product – we are not only meeting the demands of the Make in India initiative but also contributing to the technological progress of the nation,” he said.
In November, Intel is set to host the India Tech Ecosystem Summit, uniting various local manufacturers for the exhibition of an extended array of devices manufactured in India.
