Indian students who were relocated from Tehran have safely reached Qom as part of precautionary measures taken due to the evolving security situation in the region, the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) said on Tuesday.
In an official statement, AIMSA confirmed that the relocation was carried out in coordination with the Embassy of India, Tehran, to ensure the safety and well-being of the students.
“Indian students who were relocated from Tehran have safely reached Qom as part of precautionary arrangements. The movement was carried out in coordination with the Embassy of India in Tehran to ensure the safety and well-being of all students,” the association said.
According to AIMSA, proper arrangements were made for transportation. “The students were provided with well-arranged buses. We sincerely thank the Embassy authorities for their timely support and efficient coordination during this relocation process,” the association added.
The association also confirmed that all the students are safe. “All students are reported to be safe. Further updates and videos will be shared shortly,” it said.
AIMSA appealed to parents and well-wishers not to panic during this time. “We request parents and well-wishers to remain calm and united. Continuous communication is being maintained with the concerned authorities to ensure the safety of every Indian student,” the association stated.
The relocation took place at a time when Iranian airspace remained closed, making immediate air evacuation impossible. The closure has made it difficult to arrange flights for students to return to India.
The situation in West Asia has escalated sharply in recent days. Strikes have targeted key locations in Iran, raising fears of a wider regional conflict. The instability has created panic among foreign nationals, including thousands of Indian students pursuing medical and professional courses in Iranian universities.
Earlier, AIMSA had confirmed that the Indian Embassy in Tehran issued advisories asking students to move to designated safer locations. The association has been coordinating with students across Iran during this period.
Students from several universities were instructed to relocate. These included Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS), Kerman University of Medical Sciences, Islamic Azad University, and BUMS, among others. The advisory directed students to immediately shift to safer zones and carry only a 5 kg bag while relocating.
One student told ANI over the phone, “Embassy has arranged several buses for students to be picked up from universities. We have left.” The student also mentioned that they had been asked not to reveal their exact location due to safety concerns.
A message shared by a parent highlighted the movement of students from Islamic Azad University. “Islamic Azad University Tehran students are leaving towards the metro station, from there they will be picked up in buses. Just informed by my daughter. Pray for everyone's safety,” the message read.
Students from Islamic Azad University were among those who moved towards metro stations and other assembly points. From there, buses arranged by the Embassy transported them to safer locations.
ANI spoke to several students in Tehran who confirmed that they had boarded the buses and were being relocated as per the instructions of the Embassy.
The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) also confirmed the development. National Convenor Nasir Khuehami told ANI that their representatives in Tehran had verified the relocation.
“Our representatives in Tehran have confirmed that students are being relocated. This is what we had been requesting for quite some time, given that the airspace is closed and air evacuation is not possible. We asked the Embassy to relocate the students, and I can confirm they are being relocated,” he said.
The coordinated efforts between student associations and the Indian Embassy have ensured that students were moved safely despite the challenging situation. With tensions still rising, the airspace is closed. Relocation by road was arranged as a precautionary step.
