The Indian Embassy in Washington has unveiled a new virtual mentoring program called "MARG," which stands for Mentoring for Academic Excellence and Research Guidance. This initiative aims to connect Indian students and researchers with some of the top universities in the United States. The program is coordinated in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission of India, reflecting a commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for Indian students.
The primary goal of the MARG program is to assist students, especially those from smaller cities in India, in gaining access to "the latest developments in their fields of study." This initiative will provide valuable insights into various disciplines and offer information regarding "career, skilling, and research opportunities from the relevant experts across the US." By connecting students with experienced professionals and academics, the program seeks to empower the next generation of scholars.
In the inaugural round of the series, faculty members of Indian origin from renowned US institutions, including Stanford, Purdue, the University of Maryland, and George Mason University, will actively participate. Their involvement will ensure that students receive high-quality guidance and mentorship.
During the opening session, Deputy Chief of Mission Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan highlighted the expanding academic and research landscape in India. She stressed the importance of various fields, such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum science, bioengineering, clean energy, and advanced materials. Ranganathan noted that these sectors are essential for strengthening the "academic-research-technology partnership between India and the US," a relationship driven by the leadership of both countries.
Additionally, Vice Chancellors and Directors from participating Indian universities expressed their strong belief that these mentoring sessions would provide significant benefits to students and faculty engaged in teaching and research within these critical technology sectors. The MARG initiative represents a promising step toward fostering academic collaboration and enhancing the educational journey for Indian students.
