Iran recently launched a large missile attack on Israel, prompting the Indian embassy in Tel Aviv to issue a warning to its citizens. The embassy advised Indians in Israel to be cautious and avoid non-essential travel within the country. The Indian mission said that it is keeping a close watch on the situation as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise. Similar warnings were given last month to Indian nationals living in Lebanon.
The Indian embassy in Israel said on X, “In view of the prevailing situation in the region, all Indian nationals in Israel are advised to stay vigilant and adhere to the safety protocols as advised by the local authorities,” the Indian mission in Tel Aviv stated. It further added, “Please exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel within the country and stay close to safety shelters. The Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and remains in regular touch with the Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of all our nationals.”
As Tehran warned that any retaliation would result in "vast destruction," raising fears of a wider war, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised that Iran, Israel's nemesis, would pay for its missile attack on Tuesday. Iran's armed forces warned that direct action by Israel's supporters against Tehran would result in a "strong attack" from Iran on their "bases and interests" in the region, while Washington expressed full support for its longstanding ally, Israel. According to a statement, Netanyahu declared at the beginning of a political-security meeting that "Iran made a big mistake tonight and it will pay for it."
The attack, according to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, was a reprisal for Israeli killings of militant leaders and aggression against Iran-backed Hezbollah and Gaza in Lebanon. Due to Israel's ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip and its escalating attack on Lebanon over the past two weeks—which began with a ground operation on Monday—there are growing concerns that Iran and the US could become involved in a regional war.
Iran launched more than 180 ballistic missiles at Israel during its attack on Tuesday, according to Israel. Israel was rocked by explosions and alarms, and both Jerusalem and the Jordan River valley were affected. During live broadcasts, state television reporters lay flat on the ground while Israelis crammed themselves into bomb shelters.
According to the Revolutionary Guards, Iran's military successfully launched 90% of its hypersonic Fattah missiles at their targets in Israel on their first attempt at using them. "Iran's attack is a severe and dangerous escalation," Israeli Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated in a video on X, adding that Israeli air defences were activated and that the majority of missiles were intercepted "by Israel and a defensive coalition led by the United States."
