In a swift and humanitarian response, the Indian Coast Guard executed a successful rescue operation involving a Chinese national. The individual was aboard a vessel on its voyage from China to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) when he experienced a distressing medical situation. The Coast Guard's timely intervention came as the individual complained of severe chest pain and exhibited symptoms indicative of a cardiac arrest.
Amidst a display of proficient maritime rescue operations, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai received a crucial communication that triggered a rapid and coordinated response. The distress signal pertained to a crew member on board the Research Vessel MV Dong Fang Kan Tan No 2, a vessel flagged under Panama.
This individual, identified as Yin Weigyang, was reported to be grappling with alarming symptoms, including signs of cardiac arrest and heightened blood pressure. Swift action ensued as telemedicine advice was promptly disseminated to address the medical emergency, while preparations were set in motion to effectuate the evacuation process.
Navigating through challenging weather conditions and under the cover of darkness, the Indian Coast Guard orchestrated an audacious rescue operation. The team executed an airborne retrieval of Yin Weigyang from the Research Vessel MV Dong Fang Kan Tan No 2, situated approximately 200 kilometers within the expanse of the Arabian Sea. This remarkable feat was a collaborative endeavor, executed through the combined efforts of the CG ALH (Coast Guard Advanced Light Helicopter) and CGAS Daman (Coast Guard Air Station Daman).
The vivid account of this daring mid-sea operation was shared by the Indian Coast Guard on X, formerly known as Twitter. The operation unfolded amidst the challenges of nocturnal conditions and inclement weather. Captured in a gripping video, an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) MK-III is depicted executing the intricate evacuation. The helicopter hovers over the vessel, smoothly hoisting the patient Yin Weigyang with utmost precision. The Coast Guard personnel can be observed rendering initial medical aid while offering gestures of reassurance to the rescued individual, underscoring his safety.
The Chinese national was transported to a medical facility located in Daman. This multi-faceted operation stands as a testament to the Indian Coast Guard's unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives at sea, even amidst the most challenging circumstances.
In a parallel endeavor that underscores the Coast Guard's adeptness, a similar rescue mission unfolded on a separate occasion. In this instance, a critically ill mariner named Valid Ola Gilbert, hailing from the Philippines, found himself in distress on a vessel en route from Colombo to the Suez Canal. Positioned 110 nautical miles away from Kochi along the Kerala coast, the vessel reached out for assistance. Responding promptly, the Indian Coast Guard sprung into action. The mariner's evacuation was meticulously carried out via ICGS C-427, equipped with vital medical support, including portable oxygen. This dual display of the Coast Guard's operational prowess underscores its commitment to maritime safety and human welfare.
"On arrival at Vizhinjam harbour, the patient was rushed to NIMS Hospital, Neyyattinkara for further medical management. The exemplary daring medical evacuation undertaken by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) enabled the saving of a precious life at sea," the statement added.
