Indian classical dancer Amarnath Ghosh shot dead in US, actor friend seeks New Delhi's help

In yet another case of the killing of an Indian in the United States, Bharatnatyam and Kuchupudi dancer Amarnath Ghosh was shot dead in St. Louis, Missouri. In a post on X, popular TV actress and 'Bigg Boss' regular Devoleena Bhattacharjee informed about Ghosh's death on Friday, who claimed that he was shot multiple times during an evening walk. She sought help from the Indian embassy in the US, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying friends of Ghosh tried to claim his body but there had been no update on it.
Bhattacharjee said Ghosh was the only child of his parents, adding his mother died three years ago and his father died during his childhood.
"My friend #Amarnathghosh was shot and killed in the St Louis Academy neigbourhood in the US on Tuesday evening. Only child in the family, mother died three years back, father passed away during his childhood. Well the reason, accused details everything are not revealed yet, or perhaps no one left in his family to fight for it except his few friends. He was from Kolkata. Excellent dancer, was pursuing a PhD, was taking an evening walk and suddenly he was shot multiple times by an unknown," she added.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed condolences to Ghosh's family and friends. In a post on X, the consulate general said that it was following up on the forensic, investigation with police and providing support.
A series of attacks beginning this year has put the focus back on the security and safety of Indian students across the US, which has seen at least five of them dying in mysterious circumstances in the last couple of months.
Recently, an Indian-origin motel owner was shot dead by a homeless trespasser in Newport city in the US state of North Carolina.
On February 10, a 41-year-old Indian-origin IT executive died after suffering life-threatening injuries during an assault outside a restaurant in Washington.
Earlier, 25-year-old Indian student Vivek Saini was killed in Georgia state's Lithonia city by a homeless drug addict.
