A bus travelling from Agartala to Kolkata was reportedly attacked in Bangladesh, according to Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. The incident is said to have occurred on Bishwa Road in the Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh, as stated by the minister.
Taking note of the situation, Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed concern about the continuous instability in neighbouring Bangladesh. He asserted that the entire world is witnessing the persecution in Bangladesh. "Since our state is surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides, I have asked the BSF and the police to maintain strict vigil along the international border," Saha said.
"A Sahyamoli Paribahan bus on the way from Tripura to Kolkata was attacked in Bangladesh's Brahmanbaria Bishwa Road. The incident terrified Indian passengers on the bus. The bus was maintaining its lane when a truck intentionally hit it. At this point, an autorickshaw came in front of the bus, and the bus and the auto-rickshaw collided," said Chowdhury while sharing photos of the bus in a Facebook post on Saturday.
After the incident, locals reportedly started threatening Indian passengers on the bus. They allegedly shouted anti-India slogans, used offensive language, and even made life-threatening statements. Chowdhury condemned this behaviour and called on the authorities in Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Indian travellers. As a quicker and less expensive option to other forms of transportation, buses operate via Dhaka between Kolkata and Agartala. This option is more economical than flying and cuts the distance considerably as compared to the typically over 30-hour travelling by rail via Assam.
