The Army said that the arrival of Apache helicopters will greatly strengthen its operational capabilities.
It shared the update about receiving three helicopters from Boeing through a post on the social media platform X.
"#Apache for Indian Army. Milestone moment for Indian Army as the first batch of Apache helicopters for Army Aviation arrive today in India," the post stated.
The Army also said that bringing in the Apache attack helicopters will "substantially improve" its ability to carry out operations.
"These cutting-edge platforms will improve the operational efficacy of the Indian Army considerably," said the Army in the social media update.
The AH-64E Apache helicopters were delivered by Boeing, the American aerospace company, under a deal to supply six helicopters to the Indian Army. The AH-64 Apache is considered one of the most advanced multi-role combat helicopters in the world and is currently in service with the US Army.
In September 2015, the Indian Air Force had signed a multi-billion dollar agreement with the United States government and Boeing Limited for 22 Apache helicopters. Later in 2017, the Ministry of Defence approved the purchase of six Apache helicopters and their weapons systems for the Indian Army at a cost of ₹4,168 crore.
By 2020, Boeing had completed delivery of all 22 E-model Apaches to the Indian Air Force and signed a new agreement to supply six AH-64E helicopters to the Army. The delivery of these helicopters to the Indian Army was scheduled to begin in 2024.
