The Spearhead Division of the Indian Army on Monday launched ‘Mission Krishiveer’ at the Sigar military station in East Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh. The initiative was launched in collaboration with the Army Service Corps, with the aim of building a strong connection between local farmers and Army units deployed in the region.
The launch event was attended by Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng, along with senior Army officials, representatives from the civil administration, and local farmers.
Mission Krishiveer focuses on creating a structured and organised ‘farm-to-force’ supply chain, where agricultural produce from local farmers will be supplied directly to the Army. Through this mechanism, the Army aims to ensure the regular availability of fresh and quality agricultural products for troops posted in the region, while also supporting the farming community by creating better income opportunities.
The initiative will directly link farmers with Army units, which will reduce dependency on outside suppliers and ensure that local produce reaches the troops without delay. One of the key objectives of the mission is to remove the role of middlemen, so that farmers can receive fair prices for their products and the Army can get quality supplies through a transparent process.
By eliminating intermediaries, the project aims to create a transparent and sustainable procurement system that benefits both the armed forces and farmers. Officials said this direct supply model will strengthen the supply chain system and help improve procurement in remote border areas.
The initiative is also expected to strengthen border logistics and improve supply chain efficiency in difficult and far-flung regions. At the same time, it will contribute to regional food security, ensuring better management and availability of agricultural produce within the state.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Oken Tayeng praised the effort made by the Army and local stakeholders. He stated that the initiative would “significantly boost farmers’ livelihoods” while also strengthening the spirit of cooperation between the Army and the civil administration. He further commended the civil-military partnership that has been built through such development-focused initiatives.
Senior Army officials present at the programme said that Mission Krishiveer is in line with the broader national vision of self-reliance and development through collective participation. They highlighted that the mission supports the concept of “self-reliance” and the idea of “whole of nation participation in national development.”
The officials also said that the initiative is closely linked with the objectives of Atmanirbhar Arunachal, as it integrates the state’s agricultural potential with the Army’s logistics and supply needs. Through this mission, local farmers will get more opportunities to sell their produce directly, while Army units will get reliable and consistent access to fresh food supplies.
Mission Krishiveer has been described as a strong example of civil-military synergy, where both the armed forces and the local community benefit. It is expected to build mutual trust and partnership between the Army and the people, while contributing to national security and regional economic development.
The mission reflects the Indian Army’s continued efforts to not only strengthen border preparedness but also support local communities in strategic areas. The project is expected to create long-term benefits by ensuring better livelihoods for farmers and strengthening the supply network for troops deployed in Arunachal Pradesh.
