India’s Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, has been inducted into the prestigious International Hall of Fame at the US Army War College in Pennsylvania. With this recognition, he becomes the third Indian Army Chief to receive this honour. Before him, General V K Singh and General Bikram Singh were also inducted into this distinguished list.
General Dwivedi’s inclusion highlights his long-standing association with the institution, where he is also a distinguished fellow. The recognition reflects his contributions to military leadership and strategic thinking, as well as the growing professional ties between India and the United States.
The Indian Army shared the development through an official post on X, stating, "#GeneralUpendraDwivedi, #COAS, visited the Army War College , Carlisle Barracks, #USA, where he was inducted into the International Hall of Fame - the third Indian Army Chief to receive this honour, after General V K Singh and General Bikram Singh," the Indian Army said in a post on X.
During his visit to the US Army War College, General Dwivedi interacted closely with faculty members and international student officers. He addressed them on key topics such as leadership, professional military education, and the changing nature of global security challenges. His engagement focused on sharing insights and understanding evolving defence strategies in a rapidly shifting geopolitical environment.
An alumnus of the prestigious institution, General Dwivedi also toured several important facilities at the college. He took part in academic activities, including panel discussions and the review of advanced study projects conducted under the Scholars programme. His visit included interactions with senior members of the institution, offering an opportunity to exchange ideas and strengthen professional military learning.
Earlier in the week, General Dwivedi began his US visit in Hawaii. At Fort Shafter, which serves as the headquarters of the United States Army Pacific, he was given a Guard of Honour. This marked the beginning of a series of high-level engagements aimed at enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries.
During his time in Hawaii, General Dwivedi held discussions with General Ronald P. Clark, the Commanding General of the US Army Pacific, along with other senior military leaders. These talks focused on deepening India-US defence ties and building a shared vision for maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The discussions underlined the importance of collaboration in addressing regional security challenges.
The Indian Army also shared another update regarding his activities, stating, "#COAS also undertook an aerial tour of Oahu Island, gaining insights into the training ecosystem and multi-domain operational readiness," the Indian Army said. This aerial tour allowed General Dwivedi to observe operational preparedness and training structures in place within the US military setup.
General Dwivedi’s visit comes at a time when India and the United States continue to strengthen their military partnership. His engagements in the US follow closely after similar visits by Air Chief Amar Preet Singh and Navy Chief Dinesh Tripathi. These visits highlight the ongoing exchange of ideas and cooperation between the armed forces of both nations.
The series of high-level interactions reflects a consistent effort to enhance coordination, share best practices, and improve mutual understanding between the two militaries. Such visits play an important role in building trust and aligning strategic priorities, especially in regions like the Indo-Pacific where both countries have significant interests.
Overall, General Dwivedi’s induction into the International Hall of Fame not only recognises his individual achievements but also symbolises the strong and evolving defence relationship between India and the United States. His visit, filled with academic engagements and strategic discussions, further reinforces the importance of collaboration in addressing global security concerns.
